Poetry and Prose Discussions

Poetry discussions are a major part of Eighth Row Blog. They are centered around the creativity and emotion of the poem. We will also discuss the possible meaning of the poem.

I will continuously search the internet for poems. Although some poems will come from the known “popular” poets (like Robert Frost, Edgar Allen Poe, Emily Dickinson, Dr. Maya Angelou..etc.), they are likely to come from the ‘everyday’ poet that many of us may not know about just yet.

Eighth Row Blog is mainly looking for inspirational poems, poems of sadness/dark moments, “Life” poems, or anything generally dealing with overcoming.

You may submit your own poems or prose ( no more than two per month) by emailing them to: eighthrow@yahoo.com with “Poetry/Prose Submission” in the subject line. Be sure to include:

Your name
Title of your poem
A brief bio
A picture of yourself (optional)
Contact information or website (optional)

Although there is an understanding of the freedom of speech in poetry, Eighth Row Blog reserves the right not to post the following: No erotic poetry/prose, poetry/prose containing profanity, or poetry/prose containing racist or threatening remarks of any kind will be accepted. This blog also reserves the right not to post certain submissions based upon any given individual reason that may occur. If this should happen, that reason will always be made known to the person submitting their work. This is to help monitor what younger visitors and visitors in general may see and learn from Eighth Row Blog.

As previously stated, the discussions of these poems are centered around the emotion and creativity within the poem. Statements made in the discussions should be honest, but not cruel. Opinions may be offered in a mature fashion without a ‘cruel critique.’ A cruel critique is one that uses phrases such as: “This sucks.” “This is dumb.” “You’re not a good poet” or anything of the sort. Such responses are immature and will not be tolerated.

Please do not submit work filled with errors. It is understood in poetry that sometimes there is a break in rules for creative purposes, but still try to submit your best work.

Always remember that your own opinion of the poem you have written is the final opinion, regardless of what anyone else has said.

Any questions should be emailed to: eighthrow@yahoo.com
